This post explains it better than I can...

We'll have to talk about what this means since there's no indeterminate idea in native HTML (or is there? according to that post IE7 supports this and it's in CSS3.)

Duplicated in #7514 but closing this ticket since #7514 has a screenshot (albeit not what I expected, which was a gray check instead of a black one).
